WHAT IS INDIA EVALUATION CASE COMPETITION?
India Evaluation Case Competition is an initiative conceptualized by EvalYouth India to introduce college students to the basics of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), and give them an exposure of what evaluation is and evaluation professionals do.
WHY ITS FOR THE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE?
This competition will provide pragmatic approach towards Monitoring and Evaluation case understanding and learnings. As competitions generate excitement amongst students, this will also help in attracting active young minds towards the field of evaluation, eventually be in this interesting career option.
ARE THERE ANY REGISTRATION FEES FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE CASE COMPETITION?
No. There are no costs/ fees for participating in the India Evaluation Case Competition.
ARE TEAMS ALLOWED TO SUBSTITUTE TEAM MEMBERS BEFORE THE COMPETITION?
Yes. You can change any team member, provided that the new team member is a student and that the team has no more than five team members in total. The change will have to be communicated to the organisers through email.
DO ALL MEMBERS OF THE TEAM HAVE TO BE FROM SAME COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY?
The team members need not be from the same college or university. All participating students must be studying full or part-time at a university or college at the time of the competition. Students from UG/ Graduate/ PG/ PhD courses are welcome to participate, each team is encouraged to have female members.
CAN STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION MORE THAN ONCE?
Absolutely! If you are a current student (full- or part-time), you are eligible to participate! In efforts to share knowledge and expertise, coaches are encouraged to create teams with a mix of experienced and new participants when possible.
HOW MANY TEAMS CAN COME FROM A GIVEN INSTITUTION?
There is no limit on the number of teams from a given institution.
WHO CAN SERVE AS A MENTOR?
Mentor is a person who is in personal communication with the team and whom the organisers can approach in case of any queries regarding the submission by the team. If the mentor has expertise in evaluation, they can provide guidance to the teams preparing for the competition. If not, the mentor can still guide them to the resources related to evaluation and help in general preparation. Mentor may be professors from the institution to which the students belong.
On the day of the competition the mentor is on hand to record any unusual events that have affected the team’s work such as an illness or a power failure. However, the mentor must not stay in the room where the team is working or offer the team any advice on the case.
CAN MENTOR COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR TEAM ONCE THE CASE HAS BEEN DISTRIBUTED?
Mentors would have to maintain confidentiality and are not permitted to communicate with their teams, once the team has received the evaluation case. The team may contact the mentor to inform of any unusual events, which the mentor may inform to the organisers.
WHAT ARE THE WEBINAR SERIES ABOUT?
The webinar series will provide guidance and learning in Monitoring and Evaluation, and also equip students to undertake evaluation case and approach towards it.
WHAT KIND OF RECOGNITION WILL THE PARTICIPANTS HAVE?
Participants participating in this competition will receive recognition in the form of a Certificate. This will be valuable to their professional endeavours.
